Airship Dragoon Pay-What-You-Want Sale! Plus V1.3 Update!

Airship Dragoon is on a Pay-What-You-Want Deal over at https://indiegamestand.com from 14th - 17th of December 2013!

Pay over the average and get a bonus map pack giving +50% more battlefields! 10% of money raised goes to the charity "Help For Heroes" which helps in the rehabilitation of physically and mentally wounded ex-service personel.

Also available is Airship Dragoon version 1.3 update! Full changelog is here.
Already bought Airship Dragoon? v1.3 and previous patch can be downloaded here.

Next up for Airship Dragoon will be modding. v1.3 introduces the ability to fully replace all troop and weapon models with custom modded versions and allows the changing of all variables and the creation of unique classes. I've tested it by swapping the models with each other and modding troop attributes such as increasing health and actions. It's not documented yet, as the big modding drive will arrive when map making tools and tutorials are released ... which will hopefully be January 2014.

There's also a video interview with yours' truly ... conducted at 3am my time, as I help walk through someone who has never played Airship Dragoon before ... nor has he read the instructions. Having never wanted to appear naked on the internet I don't have a webcam ... so thankfully I didn't have to look at myself, and thus you don't either!

And for anyone not sure if they would say:

You can always try the new Airship Dragoon v1.3 Demo!

And finally here's the long play video I made:

Will those who bought the game earlier eventually get the map pack as well?

Average price on igs is 1,92 as of this writing, which means on could feel rather shafted for having bought the game at more than triple the price without getting the map pack.

I'm also asking because I bought the game on Gamersgate, and even if I wanted to support you and just buy the game again just for the pack, I couldn't even redeem it on GG (igs only offers Steam and Desura keys, it seems).

The map pack was designed as the bonus content for the PWYW/charity drive at IGS to encourage payment over the average (and thus can only be used in an IGS sale once).

It is actually compatible with the standard game regardless of distributor and is intended to be rolled out "globally" post mod tool release.

Ok, sounds fair and makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up!

Incidentally, if you're using v1.2, the v1.3 patch should be up on Gamersgate (I'm not sure whether users get an automatic message about this or not).

Hmm, doesn't seem like it's gone live on GG already, at least the game description page states it's still v1.2 in the game's description (can't login to verify atm).

But that's good to know and it usually takes them a few days to roll out patches for indie titles.

On the subject of patches: Do you perhaps have a rough roadmap of what will be coming in the next months besides the mod support.

From what I've seen, the game really needs birds-eye view with different zoom levels + free camera movement and/or a minimap, to make the tactical battles less cumbersome and more, well, tactical.

If these are already in the game - my apologies, as I haven't actually tried the latest releases (1.2 and 1.3), but didn't find anything wrt camera in the change logs.

Sorry for the wall of text and thanks for taking the time to reply to my questions!

I might add map support if I get spammed with enough requests for it. Freecam is no-no, as I want everything to be viewed from the individual troops view.

The 1.3 patch is available at GamersGate, you have to log in and select the game in your library and the patch is listed in a section under the download button ... I guess they don't have an automated message system for updates. Having said that, it's the same version available from my site, so you can use the link in the blog if you want.

Heh, consider yourself spammed then ;).

On a serious note, I can see the reasoning behind viewing everything from the troops' pov (it's basically what fog of war/los-mechanics would do, but less time consuming to implement), but getting used to that can be really difficult.

I remember the last time I tried the game that I switched back and forth a lot to get a good overview of the battlefield and known enemy positions and it felt a lot more cumbersome than what I'm used to from other squad tactics games. So a simple minimap (maybe disabled by default) with known enemy positions and perhaps basic terrain features would probably be enough to make it less feel like you're fighting with the interface, as it had felt a bit to me.

In any case, this is - from what I've played so far - a really fun game with a lot of potential (can't wait for the mod support update). One of the few games I've bought on a whim just based on the description and screenshots alone and I have yet to regret that. Best of luck for the future and may the sales numbers be with you!
